What arrangements must I make with the U.S. Postal Service before I start using Business Reply mailpieces, International Business Reply mailpieces, or Courtesy Reply mailpieces?

You need to make the following arrangements for Business Reply Mailpieces & International Business Reply Mailpieces

To create a Business Reply mailpiece or an International Business Reply mailpiece, you must obtain a Business Reply Permit Number and a special, nine-digit Business Reply ZIP Code from the U.S. Postal Service Mailpiece Design Analyst that is assigned to your geographical area. You can get his or her name and contact information by pointing your browser to http://pe.usps.gov/mpdesign/mpdfr_mda_lookup.htm.

IMPORTANT: Do not use your regular ZIP Code on a Business Reply mailpiece or International Business Reply mailpiece!

IMPORTANT: If you already have a permit from the U.S. Postal Service, make sure that it is the right kind of permit. There are many kinds of U.S. Postal Service permits. The kind that you need is a Business Reply Permit.
When you obtain your special nine-digit Business Reply ZIP code from your U.S. Postal Service Mailpiece Design Analyst, her or she will explain to you the procedure that you must follow to pay the Postal Service for the fees and postage that are due when your Business Reply or International Business Reply mailpieces are mailed.
After you use ReplyMailOnLine.com to create your Business Reply mailpiece or International Business Reply mailpiece, print it and show it to your Mailpiece Design Analyst for approval. He or she will make sure that everything on the mailpiece is correct — including all of the text, all of the graphics, and the two bar codes (POSTNET bar code and FIM bar code).

You need to make the following arrangements for Courtesy Reply Mailpieces

To create a Courtesy Reply mailpiece, you must know your nine-digit ZIP code and your Delivery Point code. If you don't know these codes, you can obtain them automatically over the Internet by pointing your Web browser at the Postal Service's on-line lookup service (www.usps.com/zip4/); or you can get them by asking somebody at your post office or somebody at a U.S. Postal Service Business Center.
After you use ReplyMailOnLine.com to create your Courtesy Reply mailpiece, print it and show it to your U.S. Postal Service representative for approval.
