What is a Courtesy Reply mailpiece?

A Courtesy Reply mailpiece is a pre-addressed, specially formatted, bar-coded envelope, postcard, or flat that a business provides to its customers as a convenience. A customer can mail a Courtesy Reply mailpiece back to the business without taking the time to write the mailing address on it.

Unlike a Business Reply mailpiece, a Courtesy Reply mailpiece requires postage at the time it is mailed. That is — the person who mails it must put a stamp on it.

You do not need to get a permit from the U.S. Postal Service to create and use Courtesy Reply mailpieces.

You do need to know your nine-digit ZIP code and your two-digit Delivery Point code. If you don't know these two codes, you can get them here.
